The essentials
Start here
MYWIL privately compares the travel windows you choose to share with those of accepted friends. When the right place and time line up, the app can show the overlap and send one useful alert.
- Sign in.Use your mobile number and the six-digit code sent by text.
- Make your profile recognizable.Add the name your friends know.
- Add your layovers.Use a phone work calendar, an ICS file, a private calendar link, or manual entry.
- Enable alerts and add a friend.Matching starts only between accepted connections.
Both people need accounts, an accepted connection, matching enabled, current usable windows, and compatible time in the same airport or supported city area.
MYWIL identifies a possible time to meet. It does not guarantee that either person is physically present, free, or able to meet.
Product basics
What MYWIL does
MYWIL is a private layover network for pilots, cabin crew, frequent travelers, and the trusted people whose schedules rarely line up. It compares selected place-and-time windows without publishing a complete roster.
MYWIL is designed to
- Find useful overlaps with people you already know.
- Show airport- or city-level context at the right time.
- Stay quiet until there is a potentially useful match.
- Keep schedules, notifications, connections, and arrival confirmation under your control.
MYWIL is not
- A public nearby-people feed or stranger-discovery app.
- A replacement for your airline, employer, crew portal, or official roster.
- Proof that a person is available, safe, airside, landside, or able to meet.
- Operational, duty-time, security, immigration, or transportation advice.
What accepted friends can see
Friends can see the name and photo you use, the phone number attached to the connection, and a relevant place and time when both selected windows overlap. They may also see whether the overlap is scheduled, possible now, or supported by a current arrival confirmation.
Friends do not receive your full roster, unrelated calendar events, private subscription address, flight details that are not needed for the overlap, a public movement history, or a precise live pin by default.
Account access
Create an account or sign in
MYWIL uses phone verification instead of a password. Your first successful verification creates the account automatically. Returning users should use the same number as before.
Enter your phone number
- Open MYWIL and enter your mobile number.
- Canada and U.S. numbers use
+1followed by the full number. Other countries need the correct international country code. - Select Continue and check the number shown before proceeding.
Verify the six-digit code
- Open the newest text message sent to that number.
- Enter all six digits and select Verify and continue.
- Stay on the screen while MYWIL finishes signing you in. A progress message appears if it takes more than a moment.
Never share a verification code with anyone, including someone claiming to be MYWIL support.
Resend or correct the number
- Wait for the 30-second countdown, then select Resend code.
- Select Change number to return to phone entry.
- If you requested more than one code, use the newest valid message.
- If the app reports too many attempts, stop retrying and try again later.
The Terms of Service and Privacy Policy are available on the sign-in screen.
First run
Complete your setup
The guided setup has four sections. You can finish later; Home will show what remains.
Profile
Enter the name your friends recognize. Add a photo later from Profile.
Schedule
Add the windows you want compared. No scheduled overlap can be found until at least one usable window exists.
Alerts
Allow notifications for automatic overlap alerts, or choose Not now and enable them later.
Friends
Accept a waiting request, add someone by phone number, or go to Home and return later.
Location access is optional. Scheduled matching works without continuous tracking.
Calendar and roster help
Add and manage your schedule
MYWIL needs the airport and time when you could realistically meet someone. It does not need you to publish every duty, flight, day off, or personal calendar event.
| Method | Best for | How it updates | Important limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Phone work calendar | A crew calendar already synced to your phone | Checks when MYWIL opens; the operating system may permit background refresh | Use a dedicated calendar with fewer than 1,500 events. Open MYWIL at least every two days. |
| ICS file | A roster or calendar that can export iCalendar | One-time snapshot | Must be a real .ics file under 500 KB. Import it again after changes. |
| Private calendar link | A service with a read-only subscription feed | Can refresh automatically while the app is closed | Use the private https:// or webcal:// address, not a crew-portal sign-in page. |
| Manual layover | A single stop, correction, or unsupported roster format | Changes only when you edit or delete it | Enter realistic free time in the selected airport’s local timezone. |
What is an ICS file?
The format is ICS, not ISP. ICS stands for iCalendar. A real file normally ends in.ics, such as September-Roster.ics. Look for options such as Export calendar, Download calendar, Add to calendar, Share calendar, or Subscribe.
It is also not a spreadsheet, a crew-portal login page, or a password. Renaming another file with an .ics ending does not convert it. Use manual entry when PDF or image import is unavailable.
Use a work calendar on your phone
- Open Home and select Manage schedule, or choose the schedule step during setup.
- Select Use a work calendar and allow calendar access when prompted.
- Choose the dedicated calendar containing your roster.
- Review each suggested airport and local time, deselect anything wrong or private, and save.
MYWIL reads upcoming calendar events for approximately the next 90 days. Open the app after a roster change and at least every two days; phone operating systems may delay background work.
Import an ICS schedule file
- Export or download the real
.icsfile from the service providing your schedule. - Open Manage schedule and select Import a schedule file (.ics).
- Choose the file, review every suggested layover, deselect incorrect windows, and save.
- Import a fresh file after swaps, revisions, cancellations, or a new roster release.
Imported file copies are deleted after processing. The windows you approve remain until they expire or you replace or delete them.
Connect a private automatic calendar link
- Open Manage schedule and select More schedule options.
- Paste the full private
https://orwebcal://subscription address. - Select Preview calendar link, review every window, and save the correct ones.
The app states that the link is encrypted so it can refresh while MYWIL is closed. Treat the address like a password: do not post it, send it in ordinary support email, or share it with friends. Revoke it at the source if it may have been exposed.
Add a layover manually
- Open Manage schedule and select Add a layover myself.
- Choose the airport by city or three-letter IATA code.
- Set Free from and Free until using the selected airport’s local timezone.
- Select Save layover. Edit or delete it later from Upcoming layovers.
Enter the time you can actually meet, allowing for duty, deplaning, customs, transport, security, rest, delays, and boarding.
Review every schedule before saving
- Confirm the airport, local date, and local time against your official roster.
- Check whether the item is a stated layover/rest period or time inferred between flights.
- Deselect anything incorrect or uncertain; add a missed window manually.
- If you save zero selected windows, MYWIL asks for confirmation because earlier imported layovers will be removed from matching.
Home-airport stops, flight time, days off, and short connections are normally excluded. Your official schedule remains the source of truth.
Understand schedule status
- Up to date
- The connected source is active and its reviewed data is current.
- Needs review
- The source is stale, changed, or needs attention before new windows create alerts.
- Matching paused
- Automatic source updates or account matching are paused.
- Schedule ready
- Manual layovers are available even though no automatic source is connected.
Refresh, pause, disconnect, or delete
- Refresh or review schedule: read the current source and approve a new preview when required.
- Pause automatic updates / Resume schedule: stop or restart updates without deleting the connection.
- Add or replace schedule: choose another phone calendar or import a new source.
- Disconnect this schedule: remove imported layovers and the private source connection.
- Delete all schedule data: remove imported and manual layovers plus the current airport check-in. Friends and profile remain.
Schedule preferences
Open Manage schedule, then Show schedule settings.
- Home airport helps identify your base and supplies a convenient airport default.
- Find shared layovers compares reviewed windows with accepted friends. Turning it on also enables layover alerts.
- Advanced timezone setting is a fallback only when the imported source does not supply a timezone. Change it only when previewed times are consistently shifted.
Trusted connections
Add and manage friends
Find someone already on MYWIL
- Open Friends, then Add friend.
- Enter the exact phone number the person uses to sign in, including the country code when needed.
- Select Search, verify the displayed name and photo, then choose Add a trusted connection.
You cannot add your own number. There is no public browsable directory.
Invite someone without an account
If the number is not registered, MYWIL can save the invitation and open your phone’s share sheet. The request can be waiting after that person creates an account using the same number. Confirm the number and country code before sharing.
Accept or decline a request
- Open Friends and select Requests. A count appears when requests are waiting.
- Verify the name, photo, and phone number.
- Select Accept only if you recognize the person, or select Decline.
A recently declined request may be temporarily prevented from being sent again.
Remove, block, or unblock
- Use the three-dot menu on a friend card and select Remove friend to end the connection.
- Select Block to stop matching immediately.
- To unblock, open Home, Privacy and matching, then Blocked people.
After removal or unblocking, both people must accept a new friend request before matching can resume.
Reading an overlap
Understand layover matches
Reviewed travel windows predict that you and a friend have compatible free time in the same relevant place.
The scheduled window has begun. This alone does not confirm physical presence.
Current information supports that your friend confirmed arrival at the airport.
None of these labels guarantees that a person is free, reachable, airside, landside, safe, or able to meet.
Same-airport and nearby-airport matches
A normal overlap is at the same airport. If both people enable Nearby airports, MYWIL may match different airports in the same supported city area when both have at least three hours. Check traffic, transport, borders, terminal access, and security before planning.
Open an overlap
Select an overlap on Home or a friend card to see its place, window, status, and nearby-airport context. Contact your friend directly before making plans; MYWIL does not confirm a plan on either person’s behalf.
Why a match can change or disappear
A roster can change, a window can be edited or removed, a source can become stale, matching can be turned off, a person can sign out, a friendship can end, or the window can simply expire.
Notifications
Use layover alerts
MYWIL is designed around one automatic alert for each shared layover instead of a stream of generic travel notifications.
Turn alerts on
- Open Home and find Layover alerts.
- Turn the switch on.
- If prompted, select Enable notifications and allow them in phone settings.
Both the in-app alert setting and the phone’s notification permission must be on for a push alert to arrive. Enabling shared-layover matching also enables alerts.
Turn alerts off
Turn off Layover alerts on Home or in Privacy and matching. The app explains that this also pauses matching behavior that depends on alerts.
Open an alert
Selecting a supported overlap notification opens its detail and refreshes current schedule information. The overlap may have changed by the time you open it.
Phone permission, Focus or Do Not Disturb, notification summaries, network access, battery restrictions, installation state, schedule freshness, and service interruptions can affect delivery.
Optional current context
Confirm that you are at an airport
Scheduled matching works without location. Arrival confirmation is optional and adds current airport context when you choose to use it.
Manual airport check-in
- Open Privacy and matching and enable Manual airport check-in.
- Make sure Find shared layovers and Layover alerts are also enabled.
- Return to Home. Under At an airport now?, select Check for friends nearby.
- Confirm the suggested airport, choose another, or select Choose airport myself.
- Confirm that you are there and free for the next two hours.
If foreground location is denied or unavailable, manual airport selection still works. While a check-in is active, Home shows the airport and end time. Select Clear my arrival to end it early.
Smart Arrival
Smart Arrival is an optional background-location feature for upcoming airports. Before turning it on, enable Find shared layovers, Layover alerts, and Manual airport check-in.
- Open Privacy and matching and turn on Smart Arrival.
- Read the explanation and select Continue.
- Allow the background-location level requested by your operating system.
Smart Arrival requires a current active schedule source with an upcoming airport. MYWIL describes it as checking one location reading near that airport and waiting briefly before confirmation—not as a public or continuous live-location feed.
Your phone controls whether background location events arrive, so Smart Arrival can be delayed or unavailable. Scheduled matching and manual airport selection still work when it is off.
You stay in control
Privacy, matching, and permissions
Open Home and select Privacy and matching to control what participates in matching.
| Control | What it does | When it is off |
|---|---|---|
| Find shared layovers | Compares reviewed availability with accepted friends. | New shared-layover matching stops. |
| Layover alerts | Sends one automatic alert for each shared layover. | Alerts stop, and matching that depends on this setting pauses. |
| Manual airport check-in | Lets you confirm an airport for two hours. | Manual current-arrival confirmation is unavailable. |
| Smart Arrival | Optionally confirms an upcoming airport after your phone detects that you remained nearby. | Scheduled matching still works, but there is no background arrival confirmation. |
| Nearby airports | Allows city-area matches across different airports when both people have at least three hours. | Matches stay limited to the same airport. |
| Include my home airport | Allows available time at your home airport to create matches. | Home-airport availability is excluded. |
| Include positioning flights | Uses positioning flights when MYWIL works out available time. | Positioning flights are not used for that calculation. |
Phone permissions
| Permission | Why MYWIL asks | Alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Notifications | Deliver useful overlap alerts. | Open MYWIL to check manually. |
| Calendar | Read the work calendar you select and propose layover windows. | Import an ICS file, use a private calendar link, or add layovers manually. |
| Photos | Use a profile image you choose. | Keep the default avatar. |
| Location while using the app | Suggest an airport when you request a manual check-in. | Choose the airport yourself. |
| Background location | Support optional Smart Arrival near upcoming airports. | Keep Smart Arrival off and use scheduled matching or manual check-in. |
On iPhone or iPad, open Settings and find MYWIL. On Android, open Settings, Apps, MYWIL, then Permissions; exact names vary by device.
Schedule-data lifecycle shown in MYWIL
- Past availability is removed after 30 days.
- Alert-delivery history is removed after about 90 days.
- Imported file copies are deleted after processing.
For account deletion and any data retained for legal reasons, read the current Privacy Policy.
Profile and account
Manage your profile and account
Change your profile photo
- Open Profile and select the avatar or Change photo.
- Select Change photo in the sheet, allow photo access if prompted, then choose and crop an image.
- Keep the app open while Updating photo… appears.
Photo changes are limited to once every 24 hours. Profile shows when another update is available.
Edit your display name
- Open Profile and select Edit name.
- Select Change name, enter the recognizable name, and select Save.
Name changes are also limited to once every 24 hours.
Close a Profile or Account sheet
Swipe down on the sheet, tap the dimmed area outside it, select Close or Cancel, or use Android’s system Back control.
Sign out
Open Profile, Account settings, then Sign out and confirm. Signing out pauses sharing and alerts but does not delete your profile, friends, or saved schedule data.
Delete your account
- Open Profile, Account settings, then Delete account.
- Confirm that you want to continue.
- Select a reason. Other requires text; more details are optional.
- Select Delete, confirm the final prompt, and keep the app open while Deleting… appears.
Deletion is permanent. It removes your profile, connections, and associated account data subject to legal and retention obligations. If deletion repeatedly fails, stay signed in and email support.
If you have a paid Apple App Store or Google Play subscription, deleting your MYWIL account may not cancel store billing. Manage the subscription through the store as well.
Choose the right removal action
| Action | What is removed or paused | Can it be reversed? |
|---|---|---|
| Pause automatic updates | Source updates pause; schedule, friends, and account stay | Yes—resume the source |
| Disconnect schedule | Imported windows and source connection are removed | Reconnect or import again |
| Delete all schedule data | Imported and manual windows plus current airport check-in are removed | Add or import again |
| Remove friend | That connection and its matching stop | Send and accept a new request |
| Block person | Matching with that person stops | Unblock, then reconnect |
| Sign out | Sharing and alerts pause; saved data stays | Sign in with the same number |
| Delete account | The account and associated data are permanently deleted | No |
Fix common problems
Troubleshooting
- Confirm the phone has an internet connection.
- Pull down on Home to refresh.
- Open any Needs review or error card and follow its action.
- Check both the relevant MYWIL setting and phone permission.
- Close and reopen MYWIL, then check the app store for an update.
I did not receive a sign-in code
- Recheck the phone number and country code.
- Confirm the phone can receive SMS messages.
- Wait for the countdown, then resend once and use the newest code.
- Check carrier filtering or blocked-message settings.
- Avoid rapid retries, which can trigger a temporary limit.
The code is invalid or expired
- Enter all six digits without extra characters.
- Request a new code after the timer finishes.
- Do not use a code from an earlier request.
- If the session expired, select Change number and start again.
My work calendar is not listed
- Confirm the calendar is added and visible in the phone’s calendar app.
- Confirm MYWIL has calendar permission.
- Use a dedicated crew calendar with fewer than 1,500 events.
- Look for an export or subscription option in the roster service.
- Use an ICS file or manual entry if the calendar cannot sync to the phone.
My ICS file is rejected or no layovers were found
- Confirm the filename ends in .ics and it is a real iCalendar export.
- Confirm the file is under 500 KB.
- Export a fresh copy; do not rename a PDF, screenshot, or spreadsheet.
- MYWIL normally excludes home-airport stops, flight time, days off, short connections, and uncertain items.
- Add a real missed layover manually.
Imported times are shifted
- Compare the preview with the official roster and confirm the airport.
- Check whether the source supplies timezone information.
- Open Manage schedule, Show schedule settings.
- Change the advanced fallback only if the source lacks a timezone; try Use home airport or Use UTC.
- Re-import and review. Do not save incorrect times just to continue.
My schedule says Needs review or is not updating
- Open Manage schedule and select Refresh or review schedule.
- Approve the correct windows in the new preview.
- For a phone calendar, open MYWIL after roster changes and at least every two days.
- Confirm the calendar still exists and permission remains enabled.
- A private feed may need to be regenerated if it expired or was revoked.
My friend cannot find me or matching has not started
- Use the exact number used to sign in, with the correct country code.
- Check whether an invite or request is already pending.
- Confirm neither person blocked the other.
- The receiving person must accept under Friends, Requests.
- Both people need current usable windows and matching enabled.
I have no layover matches
- Confirm you are accepted friends.
- Confirm Find shared layovers and Layover alerts are on for both people.
- Check that neither schedule is stale or paused.
- Compare the saved airport and local time.
- Review home-airport and positioning-flight settings.
- Enable Nearby airports for both people if you expect a cross-airport city match.
A match is wrong or disappeared
Refresh and compare both official schedules. Delays, swaps, edits, expired windows, privacy changes, sign-out, or a changed connection can alter the result. For repeatable errors, tell support the airport, displayed window, schedule-source type, and approximate refresh time. Redact roster details.
Notifications are not arriving
- Confirm Layover alerts is on in MYWIL.
- Allow MYWIL notifications in phone settings.
- Check Focus, Do Not Disturb, notification summary, and battery/background restrictions.
- Open MYWIL while online and pull down on Home.
- Confirm there is a current overlap with an accepted friend.
Airport detection is wrong or unavailable
- Turn on Location Services and while-using permission if you want a suggestion.
- Move to an area with a better signal.
- Select Choose another or Choose airport myself.
- Confirm the three-letter airport code before sharing.
Smart Arrival is not working
- Enable Find shared layovers, Layover alerts, and Manual airport check-in first.
- Confirm Smart Arrival and background-location permission are on.
- Confirm the connected schedule is active, current, and contains an upcoming airport.
- Review battery-saving and background restrictions.
- Use scheduled matching or manual check-in when the operating system does not deliver a background event.
I cannot change my name or photo
Name and photo changes are each limited to once every 24 hours. Profile shows the next available time. For a photo, also check photo-library permission and the internet connection.
I cannot close a Profile or Account sheet
Swipe down from the main sheet surface, tap the dimmed background, select Close or Cancel, or use Android’s Back control. If it remains stuck, restart MYWIL and tell support the device model, operating-system version, and exact sheet.
Sign-out or account deletion failed
Check the internet connection, reopen Profile and Account settings, then retry. Keep MYWIL open during deletion. If deletion repeatedly fails, remain signed in and email support@mywil.app.
Use good judgment
Safety and responsible use
MYWIL helps identify a possible overlap. You and your friend remain responsible for deciding whether a meetup is permitted, safe, and practical.
- Check official duty and rest requirements, fatigue, and fitness for duty.
- Verify roster changes, delays, swaps, cancellations, and diversions.
- Allow for report, curfew, boarding, transport, hotel, security, customs, immigration, and terminal deadlines.
- Follow employer and airline policies and confirm you recognize the person.
Do not use MYWIL while driving or during a safety-critical task. It is not an emergency, dispatch, operational-control, crew-tracking, or welfare-check service.
Contact local emergency services or the appropriate airport, airline, employer, or public authority. MYWIL support is not an emergency service.
Direct answers
Frequently asked questions
Is MYWIL only for pilots?
No. MYWIL is designed first for pilots and cabin crew, but frequent travelers and trusted friends or partners can use the same private overlap model.
Can strangers browse or find me nearby?
There is no public nearby-strangers feed. A person searches using an exact phone number, and matching starts only after you accept the connection.
Do both people need MYWIL?
Yes. Both people need accounts, an accepted connection, usable availability, and matching enabled.
Can friends from different airlines match?
Yes. Matching is based on compatible selected time and place, not a shared airline or employer.
Does MYWIL publish my roster?
No. Friends see the relevant overlap, not your raw roster, full calendar, flight history, or private calendar address.
Does MYWIL show my exact location?
Not by default. The friend-facing experience uses city- or airport-level context. Manual check-in and Smart Arrival are optional.
Does scheduled mean confirmed?
No. Scheduled means reviewed travel windows predict an overlap. Possible now means the window has begun. Friend confirmed adds current airport-arrival context. Confirm plans directly in every case.
What happens when my roster changes?
Refresh and review it. Phone calendars update when you open MYWIL, private links can refresh automatically, and ICS files must be imported again.
What if my roster is a PDF or screenshot?
PDF and image import are not currently supported. Add the useful layover windows manually.
What is an ICS file?
ICS is the iCalendar schedule format. The filename normally ends in .ics. It is not an ISP file, PDF, screenshot, or spreadsheet.
Can I use MYWIL without calendar permission?
Yes. Import an ICS file, connect a private calendar link, or enter layovers manually.
Can I use MYWIL without location permission?
Yes. Scheduled matching works without location, and you can choose an airport manually for a two-hour check-in.
Does Smart Arrival continuously track me?
MYWIL describes Smart Arrival as a limited arrival check near an upcoming airport, not continuous location sharing. Keep it off if you do not want background arrival detection.
How many alerts will I get?
MYWIL is designed to send one useful automatic alert for each shared layover rather than constant generic travel notifications.
Can a match be between different airports?
Yes, when both people enable Nearby airports and each has at least three hours in the supported city area. Always check transport time.
Why is my home airport excluded?
Home-airport stops are normally excluded to reduce low-value matches. Turn on Include my home airport if you want them considered.
Can I include a positioning or deadhead flight?
Yes. Turn on Include positioning flights if you want those flights considered when MYWIL works out availability.
Can I change my sign-in phone number?
The current app does not have a self-service phone-number change control. Contact support before losing access to the old number or creating another account.
Can I delete only my schedule?
Yes. Delete all schedule data removes imported and manual layovers plus the current airport check-in while keeping your friends and profile.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. Open Profile, Account settings, then Delete account. Deletion is permanent and subject to the current Privacy Policy.
Is MYWIL affiliated with an airline?
No. MYWIL is an independent social scheduling product and is not an airline roster, dispatch, booking, or operational-control service.
